AN INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHODRAMA
- Many thanks Doris for an opportunity to have a bite of the Psychodrama apple. You were brilliant, drawing together from a million facets and using a presentation where we could take part. I sense the vastness of the field, scope and possibilities. It was a tangible experience and powerful. I shall forever see the Isle of Wight in a new light -
a sense of being seen and almost grounded by this huge lump of land basking in the sea. I often watch it from Barton, yet it hasn’t spoken back to me quite as vividly before. And much more of course. Thanks again for giving me this chance to be present.
- Very informative and a great snap shot of Psychodrama. Fabulously controlled. Fab!
- I didn’t know what to expect and found the whole two hours very engaging.
- Extremely interesting. I’ll look into this topic. Very well presented.
- I had no expectations of the subject as had no prior knowledge – exceeded my expectations. Very professionally done, thank you for sharing this.
- Enjoyed the different, more active way of learning. It was a very good and creative presentation.
- I so enjoyed the evening, your professional, inclusive and often amusing delivery was enchanting. I admit I know little of Psychodrama, but definitely wish to know more. I can see how empowering and enlightening it can be in the hands of some-
one like yourself.
Thank you Doris for your part in my journey. For all your caring, and your care giving. Thank you. Thank you. D, Portsmouth
An amazing experience from a wonderful person. Thank you so much -
What an experience, theatrical and so very much more. What a gift. J, Christchurch
Just wanted to say a big thank you for my psychodrama experience. It has been a very rewarding journey and I can already feel that I am changing.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and insightful supervision Doris. I love your creative approach to working with people. Although challenging at times, I have no doubt that your encouragement and support in offering me a safe place to explore my reactions, responses and assumptions helped me to grow both as a therapist and as a person. I'd like to thank you so much for your thought provoking supervision, I have learned so much from the short time we spent together.
I started working with Doris at a low point in my life. I was stressed, exhausted and experiencing a crisis in confidence personally and professionally after the birth of my second child. Through Psychodrama and one to one sessions Doris helped me identify the underlying causes of my unhappiness and develop new ways of looking at my problems which ultimately gave me the confidence and will to tackle them.
I valued Doris honesty as she was not afraid to say if she felt we were getting stuck and not making progress. The changes in my life were initially subtle but looking back over the year I realise I have come a long way personally and professionally and I credit my sessions with Doris for this.
I feel more personal growth can be achieved in one session of psychodrama than in several sessions of ‘talking’ therapies. This is because you can see what it is that you are trying to work through, it brings it out of your head and enables you to have an altogether different perspective on it. It’s really a very powerful process, even in a one-

I have just been looking at my diary entry for the 5th of July 2010. "Went to my first Alexander session, a bit weird but anything is worth a try"! My back and I had been through a lot up till then, what with physios, chiropractors and osteopaths. I repeat, anything was worth a try. Well, here I am 2 and a bit years later, a little greyer, a little wiser and with a back that is so much better and able to cope with the demands I place upon it. This improvement is down to Doris who has nagged, prodded and held me up (stronger than she looks) over the years. My back occasionally gives me grief but Doris has taught me how to deal with it through better posture and learning to relax more. For this I will always be grateful. Thank you once again.

Doris provides a truly personalised approach to therapy. Doris combines both her training and therapeutic experience in a confidential and safe space, in which her clients, myself included, can express their emotions and work through their issues knowing that, although it is their work to do, they will be expertly guided and supported throughout. I have never felt judged in any way during my sessions with Doris, and I have always felt that whilst Doris's abilities as a trained practitioner are more than apparent. It is the additional warmth and honesty in her that gives me the strength I need to do what I need, and want to do. Doris has a genuine care in her work, and for her clients best interests at heart.
I found that during my sessions with Doris she showed genuine warmth and enthusiasm and it was clear that Doris had put much thought and time into the reasons behind my attendance and the best therapy for helping me to move forward. I would be more than happy to recommend Doris' services to others as, in my experience, she has a clear interest and passion for both her work and the interests of her service users.

A poem by RB
"Everything is cracked, that's how the light gets in"
Dear Keeper of women's & men's hidden stories
Mysteries, his & her stories,
Midwife of our holy potential,
Leader of the dramatic potential.
As we slip between the official family histories,
to recover the our stories,
and unspoken miseries of old,
Doris, You help us to be bold !
Enabling us to face up to & transform our fears and cry those tears !
Finally, to reveal our hidden strengths & glories !
With grateful thanks to Doris Prugel Bennett, Psychodrama Psychotherapist and all the brave, courageous women in the "Southampton Body Stories" class of 2016, who supported me in my own healing journey, especially my dear friend & fellow Buddhist P. H.
A Poem by Kayleigh S
A solid wall have I built around my heart
Guarded day and night
By sentinels all too willing to fight
Oh, what a fight
Cracks in the wall do sometimes appear
Lamenting, sadness, loneliness and fear
To shatter the structure of my heart
So I labour
On and on
Oh, do I labour
And sometimes I sail
Through this journey of life
The wind in my hair
My child by my side
And sometimes I wail
Boy do I wail!!!
Because who doesn't wish for a Mum and a Dad
Tis' the ideal for all to be had
But mostly as I plant my seeds
And harvest my crop
It's strength that I garner
And courage that I gather
Disappointment is but an opportunity
When grasped with both hands
To alter the landscape
Of our lands
